»Logitech Playgear Visor
"It does protect the screen."
 |
Ever since the PSP launched, people have been
looking for ways to protect their screen without compromising the
overall look of the portable’s sleek design. The ideal protection
device is one that will cover the screen, allow access to the buttons,
and retain as low of a profile in your pocket as possible without
looking goofy. Logitech’s newest addition to their Playgear line looks
to take care of this issue.
The polycar-carbo-ca…plastic “armor”
of the PSP can hardly be called protective as it doesn’t effectively
protect the PSP against a fall or a hard bump. After only two days, it
had accumulated so many tiny scratches that it looked to have a cloudy
film over it. This just goes to show you what your PSP would look like
if you were to tote it around unprotected.
One of the best
features about this is that it fits over the screen without the use of
screws, straps, or a bulky design. Furthermore, it features a very low
profile that doesn’t obstruct any of the ports, buttons or even the UMD
drive. Its simple design makes it very easy to install or remove.
The
device never seems to come lose while playing, but doesn’t seem like it
would be very protective in a purse or backpack. This is where one of
its downsides comes into play: The PSP doesn’t fit into Logitech’s own
Playgear Pocket with this in place. About the only cases it fits into
are those that resemble the Sony “sock” that comes with the PSP.
At
one point in my trial of the product, I let someone else check out my
PSP. They had removed the visor for one reason or another. When they
put the visor back on, I’m guessing they didn’t wipe the underside free
of dust or crumbs or whatever as I’ve noticed that there is now a
scratch on both my screen and the visor in a certain spot. Be sure to
keep the contact side of the device and your screen both clean before
fitting the visor into place.
My end prognosis for this product
is that it’s great at doing what it sets out to do. This is a visor,
not a case. It’s not meant to protect anything but the screen. Other
than its incompatibility with most hard cases, I can’t find many things
to fault it on. At only $9.99, it’s fairly cheap and can be tossed out
after it has accumulated too many scratches. If you plan on throwing
your PSP in a bag or purse most of the time, I would recommend
Logitech’s Playgear Pocket or Brando’s aluminum case to better suit
your needs.
