»Proporta Aluminum DS Case
"Great protection for those who need it."
 |
Proporta makes a
really nice aluminum PSP case. To date, it’s still my favorite. Recently, they
released a similar case for the DS Lite. Now, if you’re like me, you’ll
wonder what good a case for the DS is when it already protects its
screens. Well, the truth is that you don’t need one, but with all this
talk of cracked hinges and scratched finishes, you might just want one.
This case, just like its PSP brother, is made of a thick aluminum
coated on the inside with a soft spongy padding that protects the
contents from the shock of being dropped. With two closing clasps, it
is less likely to “dump” your system upon falling. The PSP case had a
real problem with this. I’m guessing they took that into consideration
when making this case. The overall construction is exceptional.
.
This case allows you, the use, to access all of the more vital points
on the system. The stylus, headphone jack, AC adapter plug-in, right
and left buttons, power, volume, and the GBA slot are all accessible
with the case closed. There are only a few down sides. One is that you
must open the case to switch DS games. If you are the type that uses a
wrist strap, you’ll be unable to do so with this case as it is always
covered up. Another is slightly more annoying. If you are about to pick
up the system from a charge, but keep it charging, you’ll need to
either do a little dance with the plug and case or unplug and plug it
back in. The latter is decidedly easier.
While I’m on the subject of the charger, I should mention that there is
a hole on the top of the case conveniently cut right where the charge
and power lights are so that you can quickly see if the system is fully
charged or not.
With so many access points, one notices that one’s system isn’t as
protected as one had originally thought. Because the L and R buttons
are exposed, if you were to drop it on either of those corners, there’s
a chance to damage or break in that spot. Also, because it’s exposed,
you can easily lose your stylus if you’re not careful.
In the end, if you are in the market for a case for you DS Lite, the
Proporta case’s pros outweigh its flaws. I would recommend it to anyone
who really wants that extra level of protection for their DS Lite.
