»Proporta Flip Cover
  ""

The Proporta Aluminum-Lined Flip Cover for the Sony PSP is probably the most basic of accessories that we’ve gotten. It’s pretty much just a piece of aluminum wrapped in leather that screws on to the top of the PSP. It flaps down to provide a little bit of protection to your precious screen. The cover is really just their leather PSP case, without a back and without any support.

The cover actually looks pretty good from above, but looks kind of dinky from any other angle. The white threading along the outside gives it some style as well as the nice pressed Proporta logo. When you open the top, you’ll see a neat little cut out that has a oval of the aluminum showing with ‘proporta.com’ engraved into it. It’s a shame this cut out really didn’t have any other purpose because a cutout to hold a memory stick would have been nice.

I’m not really sure about what the point of this screen cover is. It really only seems functional if placed in some sort of bag or holder. The aluminum protection the screen seems nice, but there’s really no guarantee that the aluminum is going to stay in front of the screen. The flap doesn’t really have anything holding it out except its own weight, which isn’t much. When it lays flat, the cover doesn’t lay flat, leaving the screen open for damage. The flap also gets in the way a bit while playing. You have to keep it behind your hand because trying to play with it flat against the back of the PSP is extremely uncomfortable.

When I first started screwing in the screen cover, I was kind of worried about these screws. They look like they might just break off at anytime and leave me with a busted top to my PSP. The good thing about it is it doesn’t block any of the extension ports, but it doesn’t provide the necessary protection for anything else. If you PSP were to fall, don’t expect anything about this cover to protect it, unless it happens to land straight down on the aluminum front. If that happens, you’re one lucky soul.

The only real reason I can see you wanting to buy this cover is to protect your PSP’s screen when you throw it in a backpack or suitcase. I really don’t think this will solve your needs though. If the PSP moves around a bit, the screen might come uncovered and you’d be better off with no screen cover. If you’re looking for a real case, you might want to try Proporta’s other models.
